A digital campus community is useful only when people can participate without unnecessary risk. Safety on MyTUP Social depends on two things working together: platform controls and responsible user behavior.
This guide explains the practical steps users can take to protect their accounts, avoid exposing sensitive information, report harmful activity and understand where MyTUP Social ends and official university or emergency support begins.
Protect your account first
Your account is your responsibility. Use a strong password, protect access to your device and never share one-time authentication codes or login credentials with another person.
If you think someone else has accessed your account, contact MyTUP Support as soon as possible and provide enough information for the team to investigate. Do not post account-security details publicly.
Do not post sensitive information publicly
A social platform is not the correct place to publish confidential records. Users should avoid posting:
- passwords or authentication codes;
- financial information;
- private medical information;
- government-issued identification numbers;
- confidential academic records;
- other people's private information without permission.
When an official office needs a document, use the submission method provided by that office. The Student Resources page can help you identify the correct TUP destination.
Understand the Community Guidelines
MyTUP Social publishes clear Community Guidelines that explain prohibited content and conduct. These rules exist to protect the community and provide a consistent basis for moderation.
Users should not use the platform for harassment, threats, impersonation, scams, exploitation, harmful sexual content, hate or other serious abuse. The exact standards and enforcement approach are described in the Guidelines.
How reporting works
Where in-product reporting controls are available, use them first because they provide the platform with context about the account or content involved. If a matter requires additional review, contact MyTUP Support and clearly identify what happened.
When reporting a serious issue, provide:
- the username or profile involved;
- a short description of the problem;
- the date or approximate time;
- a screenshot if it is useful and safe to share;
- any other information that helps identify the content.
Do not expose unrelated private information while making a report.
Privacy choices and personal data
The MyTUP Social Privacy Policy explains the categories of information that may be processed, why that information is used, how it may be shared, security practices, retention and available user rights.
The Cookie and Advertising Policy provides additional information about cookies, advertising technologies, Google AdSense, Google AdMob and related user controls.
Account deletion
Users who want to permanently remove their MyTUP Social account can use the dedicated Delete Account page. The process includes account-ownership verification to protect users from unauthorized deletion requests.
Deleting MyTUP Social does not automatically delete official university records controlled by TUP. Those records belong to the relevant university systems and offices.
When MyTUP Support is not the right channel
Some issues require an official university office, professional health service, emergency service or law-enforcement response rather than a social-platform support team.
If the issue concerns formal academic records, enrollment, admissions or university administration, use the appropriate TUP channel. If there is an immediate threat to someone's physical safety, use the appropriate local emergency or professional service rather than relying only on an in-app report.
Use the platform responsibly
Community safety is not achieved only through moderation. It also depends on users choosing not to spread private information, not escalating conflicts unnecessarily and not treating rumors as verified facts.
Before posting, ask whether the information is appropriate for a public or community-facing space. If it involves another person's private situation, an official university matter or sensitive documentation, a direct or official channel is usually better.
MyTUP Social is designed to make campus connection easier. The safest version of that community is one where users understand both the opportunities and the boundaries.
